Welcome to my new venture!

I love spending time cooking and also trying my hand at writing now and again, so in this wee corner of the internet, I decided to combine those two different interests into one blog.
I’ve spent time in the kitchen as far back as I can remember.
One of my youngest cooking memories in the tiny kitchen of my early childhood, a vintage yellow 1950s house, is helping mix up a confetti cake mix- and being so excited when the garish color beads swirled into the batter!
As I grew beyond the stage of a little sidekick helper, just stirring sauces and grating cheese,
my mom happily gave me a lot of free rein to experiment with new recipes, and try all sorts of culinary twists.
Some were much better successes than others. The great flop of my first attempt frying chicken still haunts me!
Burnt breading and half-raw chicken doesn’t make for happy diners! Thankfully I discovered baked Parmesan breaded chicken was much easier, and very enjoyable!
Over the years, I’ve cooked thousands of meals, and started to realize a lot of popular American cuisine recipes are quite similar, so I began instinctually cooking meals without recipes.
And what fun that was! Being set free from the confines of a printed recipe really opens up a whole new frontier of experimentation, enabling adaptation of any meal to what you like, or ingredients you have on hand.
To spice up the palette, exploring other ethic cuisines is a fascinating world of so much variety.
As an adult busy with life & work, I lean toward trying to cook simply with a greater emphasis
on being healthy. Using natural wholesome ingredients that would’ve been in the pantries of folks 100 years ago- and not relying on processed food is a culinary challenge, but well worth it flavor wise, and so much better for you… and often your wallet!
Cooking has become such satisfying hobby, whenever I return home from traveling or working, I can’t wait to jump back into the world of chopping boards, mixing bowls, pots and pans, & crafting tasty meals!
Here in these posts, I plan to share some of my favorite recipes, kitchen tips, the fascinating stories of “edible history” & memories made around the table.
Adventuring in the kitchen,
Laura
